This Lemosho route is one of the most scenic routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and it is recommended for those who want to have a more gradual ascent and better acclimatization.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Meet your trekking group and the mountain guide for a pre-climb briefing.
Drive from Moshi/Arusha to the Lemosho starting point at Londorossi Gate (2,100 meters/6,890 feet), after complete park registration and meet the porters and crew. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest. Reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780 meters/9,121 feet) and spend the night.
After breakfast, continue trekking through the rainforest. As you gain altitude, the vegetation changes to heath and moorland. Reach Shira 1 Camp (3,500 meters/11,482 feet) for the night.
Today's trek takes you to Shira 2 Camp (3,900 meters/12,795 feet). You'll experience a relatively short hiking day, which allows for better acclimatization.
Begin the day by trekking towards the Lava Tower (4,600 meters/15,091 feet). Descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 meters/12,960 feet) for overnight. The Lava Tower helps with acclimatization, as you'll sleep at a lower elevation than your highest point of the day.
Today involves a challenging climb up the Barranco Wall. Continue trekking through alpine desert terrain. Reach Karanga Camp (4,200 meters/13,780 feet) for the night.
Trek to Barafu Camp (4,600 meters/15,091 feet), which is the base camp for the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the summit push, which usually begins in the early hours of the next morning.
Start the ascent in the early morning to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters/19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters/10,170 feet) for the night. Celebrate your successful climb with your fellow trekkers and the mountain crew.
Descend further through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,650 meters/5,413 feet). Complete the necessary paperwork and receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved shower and rest.
Depart Tanzania or continue with your onward travel plans.
